Newark-on-Trent, what is there to be proud of?

Is Newark-on-Trent a nice place to live or is Newark-on-Trent rough?

I’ve lived in Newark-on-Trent for almost 20 years and can’t stand the place. It promotes itself as an ‘historic market town’ (aren’t they all?) and has next to nothing going for it. The locals don’t like outsiders, and that includes people from nearby towns, never mind actual foreigners.

They seem to feel being Newark born and bred is something to be proud of. Xenophobia is wide spread, ask anyone not born here. Of course being politically correct no one will actually admit to it. The ‘haves’ refer to the ‘have nots’ as them or they as if they’re a different species.

As a tourist you could probably see everything it has to offer in less than an hour, two if you include the civil war museum.

Don’t expect a warm welcome.
