Never make the same mistake as I did. Moving to this old mining town solely because of the housing crisis in London, has cost me my sanity. The housing is very poor, and for sure I have seen better squats around the UK. The houses that are not boarded up are smashed, and the ones that are smashed, are boarded. Nothing around locally, not even markets.
And for sure, most definitely, never set foot in this village if you are of colour and are a sensitive soul. The locals will freely tell you to ‘go home’.
Neighbours on both sides of my rented house have been telling me this, basically, from the moment I set foot here. Even if you are desperate for cheap accommodation, choose elsewhere to live.
